Team Creto- Dash For Detection 2011
Thank you to every one who participated and to every one who made a donation. Our findraising goal was $200 (which at the time I thought to be out of reach.) I am happy to announce that our fundraising efforts went above and beyond my expectations, as we raised $1,400 towards pancreatic research. Here is a brief recap of the day:
I had went to bed Friday night nervous for the morning. The forecast was calling for severe thunderstorms from 7am-Noon, which appeared inconveniently synched to the time of the event. Thankfully, woke up to a sunny, clear sky with over 90 degree temperatures. We have the sunburns as proof! Naturaleza (and BITO) unfortunately could not run, but she was sweet to come to the opening to give us kind words and support. Both Collin and Lane signed up as runners, though Lane ended up walking with me. Collin placed 25th in his age group! Joan Cusak did walk in the race, and at one point we were walking right behind her…though she wasn’t keeping up the pace and we awkwardly passed her. (In one picture you can see her behind us.) I wonder if she saw the sign on Lane’s back listing her as his emergency contact. We completed the walk in just over an hour, though it barely felt like it took that long.
I appreciated and understood that many of you expressed the want to participate this year, but were unable to. I can assure you that this will not be my last walk and hopefully you can participate in the future. I found the walk to be beneficial towards my personal recovery and a step closer to emotional healing. I am greatly appreciative of any one who not only made a difference in my life, but a difference in others. My mother would be very happy.
